Commotion builds community and improves well being through adaptive and inclusive movement. At ComMotion– Community in Motion, we believe that everyone should get a chance to experience the many benefits of movement and dance. ComMotion provides fun and engaging classes and workshops for people of all ages and abilities, including military veterans, cancer survivors, seniors, and kids. Our programs are completely portable and adaptable to nearly any space, and can be taught in both English and Spanish. Our virtual programs utilize green screen technology to create an immersive learning experience. Since 2018, we have taught more than 20,000 people around the world. Our youth programs are suitable for preschool and K-12. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit based in Raleigh. We have worked with numerous partners including the Wake County Schools, Boys and Girls Club of Wake County, Polk County Schools, Emily K Center, and The Kennedy Center, and the US State Department. Our Artistic Director Andres Avila, is a native of Bogota, Colombia and loves sharing his Latin American culture through music and dance! Andres began dancing when he was 8 years old and has taught and performed around the world.

Performance  Rhythms Of The Latin World

GRADES: Pre-K – 12, adults

DECRIPTION: Experience Latin American culture through dance and music. Instructors will share geography and fun facts then demonstrate examples of the music and dance for a variety of countries. Instructors will explain how the succession of cultures influenced society, as seen in the music and dance. Students will learn some of the most popular dances from Latin America, such as Merengue, Salsa, Samba, and Bachata. Duration and goals of performance are customized to meet the needs of the school and can be taught in both English and Spanish. Programs are available in any combination of in-person, live online, and/or pre-recorded video.

Max Participants: 200

Duration: 45 minutes per session

Special Requirements: An open space (indoors or outdoors, weather permitting) that will accommodate all of the students standing with arms outstretched. For virtual classes, students will need a few feet in each direction.

We provide sound system & microphone. If school prefers to use their sound system, we need auxiliary connection & wireless microphone. Projector or large TV screen connected to a computer useful but not required.

Fee:  $625 for one performance, $1250 for two performances
