Recipient of the 2018 North Carolina Heritage Award, Asha Bala is deeply committed to use the transformative power of Dance to touch as many lives as possible. To take the rich tradition of Bharata Natyam and expand its technical parameters to speak to the times we live in. An MFA in Bharata Natyam and MA in Modern Dance, she combines thirty years teaching in high school, universities and communities as Director Leela School of Dance.
ARTS-CURRICULUM INTEGRATION: (DANCE) (STORYTELLING) (CULTURE) (LANGUAGE ARTS)
GRADES: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12
Expose students to basic rhythms and hand gestures. Present a short piece. Teach students basic moves of the piece. Have them present it. Finally watch video of the piece performed to music and in full costume. Workshop Lesson Plan
