Mimi is a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, director of the UAC Arts Integration Institute, the 2017 NC Piedmont Laureate, and co-director of Writeaways workshops in France, Italy, New Mexico, and North Carolina. Residency  STEAM Writing!

GRADES: 3-12

STEAM Writing Residencies deepen whatever your students are studying in science, at any grade level, help them find connections between Science and English Language Arts, and strengthen their writing skills across the curriculum. Choose from ecosystems, landforms, animal adaptations, the water cycle, chemistry, biology and physics—or talk with Mimi to design your own science-based STEAM Writing Residency.

Max Participants: 30 

Duration: 45-50 minutes per session. Minimum 5 sessions needed to complete residency objectives.

Residency  Coming to America: Discovering History through Poetry & Drama

GRADES: 3-12

Arrive in America in 1901 with dreams and a steamer trunk, and discover how to live in a new country without losing your own culture. As we immigrate, we’ll integrate, bringing history to life through poetry and drama.

Residency  Claymation

GRADES: 3-12

Learn Claymation and bring the curriculum to life. From giving voice to people from history to dramatizing life cycles, in this workshop you’ll assess what your students understand and inspire them to investigate through research to learn even more. Tell a story, bring a poem to life, explore something that interests you—or just make magic! Clay recipes and a free animation app provided. This residency is available in the classroom or online.

Special Requirements: Table for artist’s supplies and tables/desks where students can work
