New Federal Bill Proposed: Creative Workforce Investment Act $300 Million for the Arts
On Tuesday, January 9th Rep. Leger Fernandez (D-NM-3) introduced the Creative Workforce Investment Act (CWIA) with Republican Co-Lead Jay Obernolte (R-CA-23). The Creative Workforce Investment Act would help bring creative workers into jobs by creating a competitive workforce grants program within the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The legislation would authorize $300 million for the administration of grants to eligible government, non-profit, and for-profit organizations, as well as state and local workforce boards through the Department of Labor in coordination with the National Endowment for the Arts. Grantees would be required to create art that is accessible to the public such as free concert series, large-scale murals, photography exhibits, published stories, or dance performances.
Arts North Carolina along with Americans for the Arts and Americans for the Arts Action Fund are endorsing this important piece of legislation. If your organization is interested in endorsing the Creative Workforce Investment Act, please fill out the endorsement form as soon as possible.
