Apply to be a CenterFest Arts Festival Exhibitor!
The visual artist application for CenterFest 2022 is NOW OPEN. All artists who wish to participate in CenterFest 2022 must submit this online application with images and application fee, even if they have been juried into CenterFest in past years. Normally, returning artists are rejuried every three years; artists who have been juried into CenterFest in the previous two years would be exempt from the jury process. For 2022, all applicants will be juried, as we have not had an in-person festival since before the pandemic (the last one was held in September of 2019). The deadline to apply is May 15, 2022.

We are currently accepting applications from performers interested in taking the stage at Durham’s signature arts festival, happening this year September 17 & 18. Submissions will be accepted through Friday June 10; applicants will be notified of status by July 22. There is no fee to apply.

If you wish to propose an exhibit other than a solo show (for example; a show that includes the work of several artists, a show based on a theme, a group or association show), you will need to fill out an alternate application. You will find the special proposal application here. The deadline for submitting special proposals is also April 30, 2022 and the application fee is $15.00 (must be paid at this link).

Durham Poet Laureate Pilot Program
In May 2021, at the request of City Council, the Durham Cultural Advisory Board (DCAB) received a presentation from local poets regarding creation of a Durham Poet Laureate. Poet Laureate programs are opportunities for jurisdictions or entities to formally recognize poets’ contributions to literary culture and society, while also providing educational opportunities to residents. Communities across North Carolina appoint or support poets laureate, who serve as advocates for the literary arts. In August 2021, after consideration during its June and July monthly meetings, DCAB leadership drafted a letter to recommend appointment of a Durham Poet Laureate. DCAB shared its letter of recommendation with City Council on August 29, 2021. City Council approved the Poet Laureate Pilot Program on October 4, 2021.
The call for poets is April 4 - May 6, 2022.
