Gaspard&Dancers Presents an Extraordinary Evening of Contemporary Dance!
Durham-based choreographer Gaspard Louis and his company Gaspard&Dancers (G&D) will present a packed evening of dance November 13 at Duke University’s Reynolds Industries Theater. The evening-length program will feature two world premieres “The breath before,” and “Inside Out”
The breath before
As movers, we tend to soak up all ambient energy and room. Yet, in Covidtide, we found ourselves having to self-isolate and stay distant from one another. The breath before probes the dynamic between people who, after months of separation, are finally able to share the same space, breathing the same air.
Inside Out was conceived at the height of the pandemic, when participants in my choreography class were confined/quarantined in tiny rooms, hardly able to move about. But, as the work went on, the dancers made their escape into the elements to seize the joy of expatiation.
In addition to the two new works, the evening will include three older works from the company’s repertoire; “Deux”, “Around Within” plus an old favorite to remember the most recent Haiti earthquake, “Souke-shake.”
The 8th annual Durham County Pottery Tour is this weekend!
Just one week until you get to see fresh new work made by 16 Durham pottery studios. We are proudly welcoming 3 new potters to the Tour this year: Nancy Garrett-Mead, Nathan Hood, and Brookestar Jorgensen. You can shop new work by these and other potters starting next Saturday Nov 13 at 10am.
