Arts News + Exhibits Last Third Friday of the summer, last chance to see the current shows! Stop by the DAC from 6-8pm on Friday, August 20 for drop-in viewing of exhibits from the Durham Arts Council and Durham Art Guild. This Third Friday at DAC is the last chance to view “Our House DAC Student Showcase” in the Allenton Gallery, and The Durham Art Guild‘s “Material and Embodiment” in the SunTrust Gallery, featuring works by BR Goldstein and Tina Marcus. Masks are still required inside the building; they are not required in the outdoor terrace space. See you there!
We are delighted to welcome Alice Osborn to perform at the DAC this Third Friday! Alice is a Raleigh-based singer-songwriter who performs folk Americana rooted in the New South. Her music features upbeat tempos, poignant lyrics, catchy melodies, and powerful vocals—check out her latest creation, Searching for Paradise, an album packed with story songs about losing and finding home and hope. She is the President of the NC Songwriters Co-op and lives in Raleigh with her family. She also plays fiddle, mandolin, and bluegrass banjo.
Deadline Approaching – Artist Support Grant Applications Due by September 3rd! Applications for Artist Support Grants are open! These project grants should enhance the applicant’s skills and abilities to create work, improve their business operations or capacity to bring their work to new audiences. Eligible applicants have lived in Durham, Orange, Alamance or Person Counties, NC, for one year before the application due date, are at least 18 and are not in a degree program in their art form. Applications are due September 3, 2021.
This is the second year of this program, established and funded by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources. The administration of the program is supported by Durham Arts Council and Partner Counties.

Arts Education Coordinator (part time)
Visual Artist Application for Durham Art Walk Holiday Market is Open! The application for the Durham Art Walk Holiday Market is NOW OPEN! All artists who wish to participate in this non-juried event must apply online via the application link. The application fee is $5.00, with a $75.00 booth fee for accepted artists. The Durham Art Walk Holiday Market will be held Saturday November 20, and Sunday November 21. Participating artists will be placed at locations throughout our Downtown Durham footprint, in both indoor and outdoor spaces. The Holiday Market is the perfect transition from the harvest to the holidays! This annual community arts festival is free and family friendly – learn more about Art Walk here.
CALL FOR ART – All artists working in any medium are encouraged to submit up to 3 artworks for consideration to one of the Durham Art Guild’s largest and most impressive exhibitions of the year. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and artwork must be original and created within the last 2 years. Artists chosen by the juror will be included in a group exhibition of the selected artworks at the Durham Art Guild’s 3,000 sq. ft. SunTrust Gallery and will be considered for all awards including $1,400 in cash prizes. We are also planning an online version of the exhibit as well.

Festifall (Chapel Hill) is seeking diverse, professional, and experienced makers to sell unique goods, like jewelry, textiles, paintings, ceramics, furniture and more. This year Festifall will be a series of locally curated pop-up art markets at different locations in downtown Chapel Hill. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through August 30, 2021.
