Tax legislation is always changing and Janet will address how those changes will affect the various situations for artists and other self-employed individuals.

Janet Ecklebarger is a working artist with a professional background as a tax associate. With a Master’s degree from Cranbrook, she has built a career assisting artists with taxes. Action Planning for Artists and Performers

Take your artistic dreams and articulate them into actionable goals! We will develop a Personal Compass Statement, an aspirational instrument to point towards an ideal creative practice or venture. Through learning and applying the Business Model Canvas, S.W.O.T. and P.E.S.T. analysis, and other strategic planning tools, we’ll dig into how your art “works”. Lastly, we will use those reflective experiences to develop an action plan to drive your dreams forward!

Jennifer A. Reis, assistant professor of arts administration and entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is a creative entrepreneur, artist, educator and curator with 25 years of experience in arts business and administration. Additionally, she is a textile and mixed media artist who creates intensively hand-worked, ornately beaded, and embellished paper doll icons on cloth using traditional and alternative materials. Learn more about her work here.

Grant Writing Clinic for Artists and Performers

This professional development opportunity is ideal for creatives of all kinds who want to do more than just learning the basics of grant writing. The hands-on experience in the homework and second session where we “work” and “workshop” our grant narratives and/or justifications will mean that you leave the program with a much stronger understanding of what your grant packages can look like. As part of this professional development opportunity, participants will also have the option of 1:1 coaching for grant reviewing, editing, and general feedback. This 2-part clinic is an investment in your artistic practice and the homework is an integral part of the experience.
