Y.O.G.A. FOR YOUTH

Y.O.G.A. for Youth is one of the oldest youth yoga programs in the country. Founded as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit in the mid 90’s in Los Angeles, it has spread all over the country, with North Carolinians founding a satellite in 2007. Y.O.G.A. for Youth has served over 4,000 youth in Durham, Orange, Wake and Buncombe counties, with multi-year partnerships including Durham Crisis Response Center, CIS Orange County, and Justice Theater Project. The Y.O.G.A. for Youth curriculum is a comprehensive youth development program based in ancient yogic techniques to foster confident, healthy, emotionally stable individuals with higher levels of scholastic aptitude and expanded behavioral management skills. ARTS-CURRICULUM INTEGRATION: (YOGA) (SOCIAL STUDENTS) (SCIENCE/MINDFULNESS) (LIFE SKILLS)

Programs

Residency Introduction to Yoga & Mindfulness
GRADES: K–12 Y.O.G.A. for Youth curriculum translates ancient scientific yogic tools into language youth can understand and apply to daily life. This program combats issues that impact youth including stress, anger, depression, low self-esteem, and poor concentration. Max Participants: 25 students max per class, can also split into two classes to address emotional and physical needs of the age group Duration: 4 days needed for residency (minimum) with each class; 45-60 minutes per session Special Requirements: Large, empty, swept space with room for 25 yoga mats to be placed with unobstructed view of teacher. Usually a gym, cafeteria, auditorium stage, media center, or large classroom is effective. Technical Needs: None; teachers will bring any instruments or speakers if needed. Volunteer assistance: At least one school staff member needs to be present at all times. It is ideal that staff member(s) actively participate in the sessions. Fee: $125.00 per class per day
