Any site wishing to cancel a scheduled engagement must do so at least 2 weeks prior to the date of activity, or be subject to a fee as determined by the CAPS office. Payment is due within 1 week of program completion. Invoices are sent to the school upon receipt of CAPS scheduling confirmation. Beautifully rebellious and refreshingly original, The Beast is one of the most imaginative bands to emerge from North Carolina’s burgeoning music scene. The Durham-based quartet fearlessly navigates worlds of hip-hop and jazz with compelling lyrics, progressive compositions and a gripping live show. The Beast is dedicated to education and cultural outreach. The group has developed workshops on the history of African-American music, based on a curriculum founded by emcee Pierce Freelon, a professor of African-American. Programs

Performance Sankofa: History of African-American Music from Spirituals to Hip Hop

GRADES: Pre-K – 12 The Beast will weave the story of African-American music into an interactive performance. Performing original songs, as well as standards from the spiritual, jazz and Hip-Hop canon. Students will participate by engaging in call-and-response, improvisation and more. Max Participants: 1500 Duration: 45 minutes Special Requirements: At least a 12×12 stage or performance area with access to electricity. Artist brings own sound equipment. Fees: Single Performance Fee: $1,562.50 Two Performances Fee: $2,250
