stArt of Cool (SOC) is a music education program that launched June 2014 under the non-profit umbrella The Art of Cool Project. SOC continues its mission of providing quality music education for students interested in learning more about music performance and fundamentals of Jazz, Latin Jazz, other popular styles of music. The mission of SOC is to introduce students to music through:

Performance Jazz Bars: The Marriage of Melody and Groove
GRADES: Kindergarten-12
During this high energy and interactive performance, students are taken on a journey through sound, rhythm and recognizable melodies, demonstrating the importance of musical communication. This performance is guaranteed have the audience on their feet!
Max Participants: 150
Duration: 60-90 minutes
Special Requirements: When possible: A stage or large classroom. PA System, accessible electrical outlets, drum set, piano (or keyboard), keyboard amp, and bass amp.
Single Performance Fee: $1,875.00
Two Same-Day Performances: $2,312.50

Schools cannot go wrong with this high-energy and interactive musical offering of traditional New Orleans-Styled music and brass band takes on popular music. Join the Bittersweet Brass Band for an exploration in American music history from its deep southern roots to present day musical influences.

Duration: 45-60 minutes per session.

Performance The Brevan Hampden Latin Music Experience
GRADES: K-12
The Brevan Hampden Latin Music Experience is a one-of-a-kind live interactive Latin music experience where the entire audience learns about different Latin music song styles, complete with authentic names of rhythms and music in Spanish with Spanish pronunciation to create a spectacular rhythmic performance. Experience music from many countries in Central and South America and the Spanish speaking Caribbean through lecture and performance with a live ensemble!

Duration: 30-60 minutes per session.

Created and presented by a musician, classroom teacher, and instructional coach with over 20 years of experience
Special Requirements: Space large enough to accommodate the group of students; i.e. Auditorium, gym, gymnatorium, ect., and sound system. Artist & Ensemble bring all instruments. Please allow artist access to performance space at least 1.5 hours prior to performance time. Artist may charge an additional fee for schools without a PA system in situation where one is needed. Contact the CAPS office to discuss technical needs.

Workshop or Residency Tips From The Pros: Sound Your Best With The Bitter Sweet Brass Band
GRADES: 5-12
Help your band students sound their best, on and off the field with the Bitter Sweet Brass Band. Band teachers can tap into members of Bitter Sweet Brass as a music coaching resource for their band’s various instrument sections. Musicians in the brass band provide musical coaching for trumpet sections, trombone sections, woodwind sections, drumlines, and tuba sections. Band teachers can request the full ensemble to provide sectional work all in one day, or choose to work specific sections of their band, based on their need. With years of experience in performing both on stage and in marching band, members of the Bitter Sweet Brass Band will have your ensemble marching and playing even better than before.

Duration: 60 minutes per session

Customizable instruction for specific instruments or the entire band
Can provide after-school and Saturday instruction with enough advance notice
Fun, interactive, and highly educational experience for students and teachers alike
Able to provide instruction for marching ensembles or symphonic/wind ensembles
Presented by band members with military band experience, and collegiate marching and collegiate professor experience
Special Requirements: When possible, separate spaces within a bandroom or field to effectively workshop instrument sections of the band without extreme distractions from other band payers. The simultaneous use of multiple spaces is preferred to workshop different band sections all at once.

Residency Mastering The Blues Songwriter in You
GRADES: 6-12
During this interactive course, students will learn how to compose and later perform their own original blues lyrics the way the pros do it!

Duration: 90 Minutes. 2 days needed for residency (minimum).

Large classroom, Piano and/or keyboard and amp.

Workshop or Residency Togetherness is Key: Breathing and Playing With Your Ensemble Mates
GRADES: 6-12
Students will learn various approaches to blending, breathing, and executing ensemble playing as one. These exciting concepts will require that students tap, play, and sing through even the most difficult passages.
Max Participants: 30
Duration: 90 minutes per session. 2 days needed for residency (minimum).
Special Requirements: When possible: A stage or large classroom. PA System, accessible electrical outlets, drum set, piano (or keyboard), keyboard amp, and bass amp.
Fees:
Workshop with 1 instructor (up to 2 classes per day): $625
2-Day Residency with 1 instructor or 1 workshop with 2 instructors (up to 2 classes per day): $750
2-Day Residency with 2 instructors: $1,437.50
