Christopher Vitiello – Poetry Fox
As the Poetry Fox, writer Chris Vitiello writes custom poems on-the-spot at schools and events, on typewriter, while dressed as a giant fox. Vitiello is also the current Durham Poet Laureate and is available to teach writing workshops and give auditorium presentations at schools and elsewhere. An award-winning journalist, Vitiello has published three full-length poetry collections and performs at about 250 events a year.

DESCRIPTION: As both the Durham Poet Laureate and the Poetry Fox, writer Chris Vitiello talks about how he started writing, how he fell for poetry, and how he developed a fast writing practice based on the gamification of writing.

DESCRIPTION: Bring the Poetry Fox to any school event to write custom poems for students, parents, teachers, and school staff! Give him a word and he writes a poem on the spot on a typewriter-for you to keep!

Residency Un-Boring Your Writing

DESCRIPTION: In this fast-paced writing workshop, we mine our memories for material and learn how to expand upon it to bring rich details to the page. Students will write list poems, riff on charged objects, and explore wild poetic forms—all designed to unlock creative doors to loose their personal expression.

Workshop Writing Games With The Poetry Fox

DESCRIPTION: Play quick-write games with the Poetry Fox! In this fun and lively workshop we will write a variety of poems using generative methods designed to get you writing-list poems, memory poems, exquisite corpses, and much more.

Workshop Write With The Poetry Fox
GRADES: 6-8,9-12, Adult
DESCRIPTION: Chris Vitiello writes custom poems spontaneously—the instant someone gives Chris a single word as a prompt, he chooses an idea and write the poem immediately. In this masterclass, Chris will describe and demonstrate his process and walk students through it so they can produce spontaneous, topical poems.
