Beverly Botsford
Beverly Botsford is a cross-cultural percussionist and educator, blending music, movement and spoken word in solo and ensemble performances, workshops and residencies. Embracing drumming traditions of Africa, Cuba, Brazil and NC, she weaves colorful rhythmic tapestries with a fascinating array of percussion from around the world. With 30 years of professional experience, she has shared her music with more than 40,000 students and performed as a jazz artist in major venues all over the world ARTS-CURRICULUM INTEGRATION: (MUSIC) (MATH) (SCIENCE) (CULTURE/SOCIAL STUDIES)

Programs

Dancing Drums - Performance
Beverly celebrates world cultures and curriculum with music, spoken word, stories and dance with drums of Africa, Cuba, Brazil, and other global percussion colors with a taste of jazz and Carolina spice. This highly interactive performances integrates culture, character and cultural studies curriculum. Schools will also receive access to videos for pre- and post-performance learning. Max Participants: 300 Duration: 45-60 minutes Special Requirements: Tech needs: PA system with at least 3 inputs and two microphones on stands, assistance with sound check Set-Up: 10 folding chairs, 2 med. tables, appropriate performance space- min. size 15 ft X 12’ ft. Access and Volunteers: Artist will need to drive as close as possible to presentation site for unloading and loading. It would be helpful if two volunteers could assist with equipment and set-up. Single Performance Fee: $750 Two Same-Day Performances: $1,125 Three Same-Day Performances: $1,375
Drum Talk - Workshop
Weaving words and rhythms, this hands-on drum workshop celebrates cultural connections to Africa and Latin America. Students will build upon their teamwork, listening, and creativity skills while integrating social studies, ELA, literacy, and twenty-first century curriculum. Schools will also receive access to videos for pre- and post-workshop learning. Max Participants: 30 – can be adapted to larger groups in special circumstances Duration: 45-60 minutes Special Requirements: A clean room large enough for students and a variety of sometimes large drums and percussion. Set-Up: 2 medium tables, 12 chairs, close access for loading and unloading equipment, help with unloading and set up if possible; access to the workshop space at least 30-60 minutes before the session. The artist requests the use of additional drums and percussion from the school music room, if available. With older middle and HS students, chairs for every participant plus 6 extra chairs with no arms. **Singing and drumming will occur during the residency so the space should be isolated from sound sensitive classrooms if possible. Fees: Single Workshop: $375 Two Same-Day Workshops: $500 Three Same-Day Workshops: $625 Four Same-Day Workshops: $750
Roots and Rhythm - Residency
Weaving words and rhythms, this multiple session hands-on drum residency celebrates cultural connections to Africa and Latin America. Students will build upon their teamwork, listening, and creativity skills while integrating social studies, ELA, literacy, and twenty-first century curriculum. Schools will also receive access to videos for pre- and post-residency learning. Max Participants: 30 per session Duration: 45-60 minutes per session. 2 days minimum. Special Requirements: Set-Up: A secure space in which instruments can be set up and left overnight and to which students can come to work with the artist. Two medium sized tables, 12 chairs, whiteboard. Access and Volunteers: Artist will need to drive as close as possible to presentation site for unloading and loading; two volunteers are needed to help with equipment and setting up space if available. **Singing and drumming will occur during the residency so the space should be isolated from sound sensitive classrooms if possible. Fees: **Schools must book minimum 3 classes per day 3 classes per day: $468.75 per day 4 classes per day: $593.75 per day 5 classes per day: $718.75 per day
