Mestra Tigresa Born and raised in Brazil, developed an interest in Capoeira at a young age and began studying in 1986. She obtained her Instructor belt in 1995 and began teaching. Beyond her training and teaching duties, Tigresa participated in rodas and batizados throughout Brazil, and secured a personal training certifcate. In 2001, Tigresa moved to the United States and continued to develop her craft. She earned the title of Contramestra in 2012 and Mestra in 2022. As an Mestra, she teaches her students proper and safe techniques, focusing on capoeira’s foundational movements of dance and martial arts.

Performance Trazer Dendê
GRADES: K-5, 6-8, 9-12
This dynamic and interactive performance brings an exciting blend of martial art, dance, live music and storytelling. Learn how Capoeira developed as a tool of survival, identity, and empowerment and give student volunteers the opportunity to engage from their seats or the stage.
It promotes physical awareness, cultural appreciation, mental health, and values such as respect, resilience, and community. It is ideal for grades K-12, school assemblies, after-school activities and community cultural events.
Max Participants: 200+
Duration: 30-45 minutes (60-mins with Q&A)
Special Requirements: Open space (stage, gym, multipurpose room). Access to electricity for small sound system (if needed). Microphone for larger audiences. Optional: Projector for visual aid/slideshow on Capoeira’s history.

Residency Capoeira: The Art of Freedom
GRADES: K-5
This residency introduces students to Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art form that blends martial arts, dance, music, and cultural history. Led by Maestra Tigresa, students explore movement, rhythm, and storytelling while learning about Capoeira’s roots in African resistance and resilience. Through hands-on activities, live percussion, and call-and-response songs in Portuguese, students build coordination, confidence, and cultural awareness. The program supports cross-curricular learning in arts, dance, music, and movements that can be adapted for grades K-12 or multigenerational community groups.
Max Participants: 30 per classrooom
Duration: 45-60 mins per session. Min 3 days recommended for residency, Max 5 days. (Max 4 classes per day)
Special Requirements: Open space, iPhone auxiliary cord, sound system, volunteer aid needed for any participants with special needs. Percussion instruments are recommended (artist-provided or improvised rhythm tools)

Workshop Capoeira Me Chama
GRADES: PreK-K, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
This dynamic workshop introduces participants to Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art that weaves together dance, acrobatics, music, and cultural storytelling. Participants will explore foundational Capoeira movements, rhythmic patterns using traditional instruments, and songs in Portuguese that reflect the art’s origins in resistance and resilience.
Students will learn basic movement sequences and demonstrate how Capoeira functions as both a game and a cultural dialogue. The workshop concludes with community roda (circle), where participants put their learning into practice through movement, rhythm, and shared energy.
Max Participants: 30 per session
Duration: 45 mins per session.
Special Requirements: Open space, iPhone auxiliary cord, sound system, volunteer aid needed for any participants with special needs. Percussion instruments are recommended (artist-provided or improvised rhythm tools). Water bottles, mats, or chairs for breaks/adaptations.
