Durham Arts Council Announces New 2026 Initiatives Supporting Artists, Arts Education, and Community Access including Creative Spaces Grants, a new artist booking website, and strategic planning progress signal strong momentum for Durham’s creative future.
Durham, NC (February 2, 2026) – Durham Arts Council (DAC) is entering 2026 with new initiatives that expand access to the arts, invest directly in local artists, and strengthen arts education across Durham. These efforts reflect both immediate action and long-term vision as the organization advances toward the conclusion of its strategic planning process in February 2026.
The DAC has launched a new initiative, the Creative Spaces Grants, to expand access to their historic building through three distinct opportunities designed to support local artists and arts organization: Creative Hours Grants, Creative Showcase Grants, and Creative Residency Grants (coming soon). The pilot program for the Creative Hours Grant provides artists with a space to grow their work and deepen their practice such as meeting space, rehearsal rooms, and storage. The Creative Showcase Grant, previously known as the Facility Grant, offers access to public-facing programming such as performances, conferences, and pop-up exhibitions.
DAC is also launching a new Creative Arts in Public and Private Schools (CAPS) artist booking page, making it easier than ever for schools, community centers, and partner organizations to access arts education programming. The redesigned website improves transparency, usability, and navigation, allowing users to more easily explore offerings and connect with high-quality arts experiences. The launch of Creative Spaces Grants and the updated CAPS website align closely with DAC’s strategic priorities, including improving access to the arts, strengthening support for artists, and reducing barriers for schools and community partners. Together, these efforts demonstrate DAC’s focus on building a strong, inclusive, and sustainable future for the arts in Durham.
To help fund and sustain these efforts, DAC will debut its new gala, Art of the Party, on February 28, 2026. The event will bring together artists, supporters, and community members for a creative evening of immersive art party experiences, all while raising critical funds for arts education programs, free community events, and resources for local artists and arts organizations.
