MAKE MUSIC DAY AT THE GOVERNOR’S MANSION |
On June 21st, DAC’s Executive Director, Sherry DeVries, along with community leaders, attended the Make Music Day celebration at the Governor’s Mansion in Raleigh. The event marked Governor Cooper’s launch of the new North Carolina Office of Music, aimed at promoting and celebrating the state’s music, musicians, and the music industry. This office will oversee a variety of music-based programs statewide, foster economic development through creative industries, attract investments in the music sector, and raise awareness of North Carolina’s rich musical heritage, culture, and educational opportunities. READ THE PRESS RELEASE HERE.
The new NC Office of Music will also help drive forward the new North Carolina Music Friendly Cities program which includes Durham, Shelby, and Elizabeth City in the pilot program. The project focuses on bolstering it’s local music industry to enhance job creation, boost tourism, and stimulate economic growth. These cities will be working toward certification to join a global network of cities dedicated to supporting their music industries as integral components of their distinctive cultural landscapes.
