Out of this World!
Climb aboard the starship and sail away into galaxies near and far! Rockets, rovers, constellations, planets, the sun and moon, comets, and even otherworldly beings – join us on this interstellar adventure through the arts. From Van Gogh’s Starry Night to David Bowie’s Space Oddity, we’ll learn about how artists have taken inspiration from the night sky and beyond as we create our own out-of-this-world creations! 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Drop-off begins at 8:00 AM. January 2 (single day option)
January 2 – 5 January 16 February 19
These camps are designed for students’ ages 5 to 12 years and accommodate year-round and traditional school breaks. Students participate in both visual and performing arts activities that are inspired by the camp theme. Each week has different activities so campers can participate in multiple weeks.
Camp runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Drop-off begins at 8 AM.
*DAC provides a prepackaged snack, but campers must bring their own lunch. |

| This November, we’ll have three exciting one-time workshops at the DAC! Whether you want to learn a new skill or explore your creative side, there’s a Friday Night Make for you. 11/3 Ceramic Holiday Ornaments with Becca Hulett: Get messy and make something beautiful and functional in this fun hand-building workshop!
11/10 Handmade Art Journals with Jillian Lea: Learn bookbinding techniques to create your own handmade journal. Take them home and fill them up with your artistic creations!
11/17 Found Poetry with Maurisa Li-A-Ping: Found poetry uses words, phrases, and sometimes whole passages from other sources to give them new meaning. Explore the ways found poetry can help you reclaim your stories and truth, no poetry experience necessary. |

Emerging Artist Information Session November 9th at 6pm! |

The Emerging Artists Grant application is now open! This grant supports professional career development projects for individual artists living in Durham, Orange, Chatham, Granville and Person Counties, NC (see the website for additional information on eligibility). Information sessions will be held November 9 and December 11. All sessions are on zoom at 6 pm and you can request a link by emailing Margaret DeMott at mdemott@durhamarts.org.

| Cultural Roadmap Survey Deadline Extended to November 17th! |

The City of Durham and Durham County is seeking input from all who live, work and play in Durham for the Durham Cultural Roadmap. Residents are asked to complete a brief survey on their priorities for the arts and culture in our community. The information gathered from these surveys will inform the development of the vision and goals for the new five-year cultural plan for Durham. |

Durham Symphony November Concert |
|
|
On Sunday, November 5th, at 7 PM, The Durham Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro William Henry Curry, will transport audiences through a musical journey at Durham’s Carolina Theatre. In addition to beloved selections from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty, the evening will unveil some true rarities, including the world concert premiere of the Tchaikovsky/Rapée Symphonie Elégiaque. This orchestration of Tchaikovsky’s piano trio, discovered in an archive by Maestro Curry, promises to be a poignant highlight. It has been used as ballet music, but never performed at a concert. A gifted student trio from UNC-Chapel Hill, coached by conductor Tonu Kalam, will perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s piano trio. The program will also feature another rare gem, Tchaikovsky’s Military March. Originally for piano, the work was orchestrated by Maestro Curry and was premiered by the Durham Symphony several years ago at the Carolina Theatre. Don't miss this unforgettable night of classical brilliance and historical significance.

We encourage you to wear a mask if you will be in close proximity (less than 6 feet) to other visitors, students, or employees. Clay Students: Students and instructors in the DAC Clay Studio are strongly encouraged to wear a mask due to clay materials and clay dust. |
