| Creating a Vibrant Community Through the Arts |
|
|
Dear Arts Friends,
Summer is in full bloom here at the Durham Arts Council, and we couldn't be more excited about the creative energy that's swirling around us. I’m reaching out to you and other friends of DAC because the arts need your help!
Your donation this season will provide exciting arts experiences for everyone in our Durham community and support the amazing arts organizations and artists that call Durham home.
Your donation will have a real impact on the community, inspiring creativity, promoting diversity, and fostering a sense of connection and belonging. The arts programs you support will bring people together, encourage dialogue and understanding, and help us all to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the world around us.
By sending your donation to the Durham Arts Council Annual Arts Fund, you are helping to ensure that the arts are revived, restored and accessible during this rebuilding post-pandemic time. Can we count on you to support the arts? By giving back to the arts community you are investing in the future of Durham and helping to make it a more vibrant and creative place for everyone. Sincerely,
Sherry DeVries

Highlights from Robby Poore's Visit with DAC |

About Robby
Father, screen printer, guitarist, graphic designer, DJ, and radio host, Robby Poore is a modern-day renaissance man. His eye-popping work is the result of a complex career path, from NC to New Mexico and back.
His primary passion of screen printing was originally a hobby of his. Creating pop-style graphic designs, Poore began to find a niche. After nearly 40 years of practice, he has perfected his style of screen printing. Currently, he finds himself at the helm of UNC Creative–an award-winning design agency for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to this, he is an instructor at Super G Print Labs. This past Thursday, Robby was able to lend his talents to the Durham Arts Council for summer camp. During his visit, campers were able to engage with Robby’s lively style of screen printing.

Now Showing in the Durham Art Guild |
|
|
The Durham Art Guild presents Visceral Structures, featuring works by Sudie Rakusin, Holly Fischer, Susan Finer and Ivana Milojevic Beck. |
|
|
Ivana Milojevic Beck, Susan Finer, Holly Fischer, and Sudie Rakusin are four artists with distinctly different voices who all share the desire to push the boundaries of their chosen media and present work that challenges conventions by recontextualizing the familiar. Their work explores identity with the goal of breaking free from social constructs. By manipulating expectations, these artists explore a balance between the contrasting forces of complexity and chaos versus stillness and harmony. These artists invite their audience to suspend disbelief, delve beneath beauty and surface appearance, and enter a world of transmutation and fluidity.

The Durham Art Guild also presents “Free Associating” an exhibition displaying the work of students from DAG’s 2023 Creative Mentorship Program |
