Schools explore Afro-Peruvian culture with Marcos Napa during Hispanic Heritage Month!
In October, the arts and cultural teams at R.N. Harris and Holt Elementary schools hosted Marcos Napa to share in the celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month. A big thank you to Toya Chinfloo, dance educator at R.N. Harris and the planning team and also Enoch Robbins, music educator at Holt Elementary.
Marcos Augusto Napa Ormeño, born in Lima, Peru, has dedicated his career to Afro-Peruvian music and dance. As a child, he started as a dancer in the Ballet Peru Negrito, and in 1983, he made his debut as a professional percussionist in Ballet Perú Negro. Marcos Napa has shared his Afro-Peruvian culture in schools through the Durham Arts Council’s CAPS program since 2018.
