Performance The Big Bad Wolf and the Little Pig

GRADES: Pre-K – 5

This puppetry arts performance is an original adaptation of the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs. It fractures the well-known fairy tale by changing the three male pigs to one female pig who builds a house of straw followed by a house of sticks and finally a brick house. The impatient pig makes hasty decisions regarding the construction of the first two homes against the advice of her friend. The wolf inadvertently destroys the first two houses in his attempts to crash the pig’s housewarming parties. The pig and wolf forge an unlikely friendship by the end of the story and have mutual respect. When he finally secures an invitation to an open house at the brick home, both the pig and the wolf have learned lessons about kindness, responsibility and inclusion.

Performance African Folktale "The Chief with Five Heads"

The puppetry arts performance is inspired by an ancient oral folktale thought to have originated with the Xhosa people in South Africa. A father living in a small village sends his two daughters to meet the Supreme Chief in hopes that one of them will be selected to be the Chieftess. The two sisters set off separately to prove they are worthy of his great honor encountering several creatures along the way. In this traditional folk story of kindness, generosity, empathy, and honesty are rewarded.
