Febuary 2023 Third Friday at the DAC
Friday, February 17th, 2023
6-8pm at the Durham Arts Council
Corrientes Latinas / Latin Currents, highlights the work of artists belonging to the Inter-Latin American Artist Collective (ILAAC), a group of professional artists working in the Triangle Area: Cornelio Campos, Luis MacKinney, Lety Álvarez, Pepe Caudillo, José Manuel Cruz, Antonio Alanís and Peter Marín. The exhibition responds to Hispanic Heritage Month but with the effort to include Latin American art throughout the year. As representatives of Latin American art in North Carolina, we seek to increase the representation of our historically excluded voices and seek spaces where we can express our culture, traditions, ideas and feelings through art. We are a newly formed group of professional artists looking to increase representation, inclusion, and diversity throughout the Triangle’s art scene. We are excited to show at the Durham Art Council’s gallery spaces because we believe that efforts like exhibiting and cultural programming will continue to open doors for more Hispanic/Latinx artists in North Carolina.
Adi Shakti by Neil Craver is a photographic series that interplays between qualities of the cosmos and consciousness. The intention behind this collection is to create an artifact, connected to the creative energy manifested in meditation, specifically the Adi Shakti mantra meditation.
In addition to this opening, the Durham Art Guild will unveil their 2023 Member’s Showcase on the first floor Truist Gallery.
And don’t miss the music of Allie Capo who will be performing in the DAC’s pavilion.
See you at the DAC for February Third Friday!
Masks are recommended to enter the Durham Arts Council building. This event is free and open to the public.
